Self-Management
By referencing APA and SkillsFuture, we have identified the following core components of self-management for you to focus in:
1. Self-Awareness
The American Psychological Association clusters Reflective Practice, Self-Assessment and Self-Care together and loosely defined it as the practice conducted with personal and professional self-awareness and reflection; with awareness of competencies; with appropriate self-care.
What does personal and self-awareness look like?
2. SElf-care
Self-Care refers to the attention to personal health and well-being to assure effective professional functioning. In the helping profession, it is critical to take care of yourself, before you can effectively take care of others.
3. Stress management
Stress is a feeling we all experience when we are challenged or overwhelmed. Our hard-wired stress response is designed to give us the quick burst of heightened alertness and energy needed to perform our best; but prolonged stress can lead to well-being issues. How can we better manage and view stress?
4. Self-improvement & Productivity
Armed with self-awareness, self-care and stress management, the idea is to take responsibility of your own behaviour, form good habits and to channel your energies to become as effective as possible.
5. Problem-Solving & Decision-Making
Problem-Solving & Decision-Making skills are essential for living life productively and efficiently. Most of what we do in our careers is to solve numerous problems and make countless decisions. We can continuously hone our problem-solving and decision-making skills through different life experiences, interactions with different people, self-reflection, coaching and supervision.
