A Message from the Community Psychology Hub (CPH)
Dear Psychologists
The purpose of this website resource is to provide a one-stop-shop information site on building the competency of psychologists in the social service sector.
As psychologists in the sector, especially someone new to the sector, it's often challenging to understand the role of the psychologist and the specific competencies - e.g., case conceptualisation, assessments, interventions, evaluation, and other knowledge and skills - needed to do your job well. Often, this is due to the fact that different agencies in the sector also do things very differently, which is not necessarily a bad thing!
This website seeks to shed light on this by providing a consolidated point of view on the competencies that are deemed to be more effective in supporting our clients, based on what CPH believes to be the role and best practices for psychologists in the sector. Diving deeper, it also provides curated ideas and resources for how to develop these competencies, including information on regular training workshops for psychologists and other professionals in the sector.
This online resource is by no means comprehensive nor prescriptive, as we recognise that there are so many good resources available on the internet, sector training, and definitely lots of wisdom within the many hard-working psychologists on the ground. Rather, this website’s purpose is to provide a convenient first touch-point for psychologists, especially those new to the sector.
Obviously, we hope it can help such psychologists, but we also hope it can provoke new thinking and challenge existing practices, ultimately for the good of our clients and families. I hope you will find this online resource useful, and we welcome continual feedback on it.
Happy learning!
